On May 29, 2024, Mingachevir State University (MSU) hosted an academic-practical conference titled “The Role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Environmental Improvement in Azerbaijan,” dedicated to the 101st anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.” The conference was attended by MSU’s academic and administrative staff, students, and postgraduate students.

The conference began with an opening speech by Vugar Mustafayev, Head of the Department of Science and Innovation at MSU. He discussed the policies implemented by National Leader Heydar Aliyev during his leadership of the country, focusing on the development of ecology and environmental protection. He noted that Heydar Aliyev’s special attitude towards Azerbaijan’s rich nature was an integral part of his ideology of Azerbaijanism. The National Leader consistently emphasized in his speeches the importance of preserving the green beauty, the purity of rivers, and the role of a clean environment in enhancing human life, stressing that every element of nature must be protected, restored, and enriched. Mustafayev concluded his speech with a quote from Heydar Aliyev: “If someone cuts down a healthy tree, he is not only betraying his people, nation, and country, but he is betraying his own family and himself. Therefore, you must protect every tree and fight for the protection of every tree.”

Following the opening, presentations were made according to the conference program. Təranə Yusibova, Head of the Department of Physics and Ecology, Associate Professor, presented on “The Role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the Formation of National Ecological Strategy for a Green and Everlasting World.” Lalə Əsgərova, Chief Advisor for Document Management at the 8th Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, spoke on “Heydar Aliyev’s Legacy in Environmental Improvement in Azerbaijan.” Ülkər Aşurova, Head of the Energy Department, Associate Professor, discussed “The Transition to Green Energy: A Continuation of Heydar Aliyev’s Independent Energy Policy.” Qaragöz Kərimov, Lecturer at the Department of Mechanics, presented on “Environmental Safety in the Formation of Azerbaijan’s Transportation System.”

The speakers discussed the significant environmental reforms made during Heydar Aliyev’s leadership and the achievements in environmental protection that have continued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, who has carried out extensive work to preserve biodiversity in the country.

The presentations were met with great interest from the audience.

It is worth noting that various events are being organized at MSU as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.”
