It is gratifying that right now Azerbaijan is recognized as a reputable and reliable partner among the countries which continuously contribute to the sustainable future of the world with its proactive, innovative position and result-oriented activities. The definition of “Clean environment and “green growth” country” as one of the main directions in “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development” demonstrates the existence of political will in this direction, purposeful and programmatic approach in our country.
Rector of Mingachevir State University (MSU) Shahin Bayramov expressed these thoughts in his statement to AZERTAC.
The Rector noted that maintaining the balance between economic growth and environmental factors in Azerbaijan, and expanding the application of “green” and “smart” innovative approaches in all areas create favorable opportunities for our country to move decisively and reliably towards the goals set for sustainable development. . After the liberation of our homelands, which have been subjected to occupation, ecocide and urbicide for many years, the declaration of a green energy zone and rapid revival on the basis of “green” and “smart” concepts are manifestations of the formation of an exemplary management model in this field in our country. Sh.Bayramov noted that the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” by the relevant Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the plan of actions to be implemented in this framework can be thought as a clear example of the significant contribution of our state to global initiatives and challenges. . It is no coincidence that the services and contributions of our country in the field of sustainable development are always highly respected and appreciated by the international community. The hosting of COP29, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change that is thought one of the most prestigious events in the world, is one of the indicators of this trust. Achieving the holding of
this global-level event in our country is rightly thought as a successful and significant event in our foreign policy. All this once again demonstrates that Azerbaijan, which is always committed and contributes to the world’s solidarity for the sake of “green” values and goals, has already become an active “green” actor of international relations.
“As a higher education institution, Mingachevir State University, which focuses on global and national challenges, also gives special importance to the components of sustainable development in teaching, research and social service activities. Within the framework of the” Year of Solidarity for a Green World”, it is planned to implement relevant activities at our university to contribute to the events to be carried out in our republic. These activities, which will also cover the city and surrounding regions, will include measures aimed at improving the environment in addition to strengthening awareness and promotion of Sustainable Development. In response to the call for solidarity, the academic potential of MSU will be mobilized for various conferences, seminars, trainings, meetings, as well as projects and actions on sustainable development,” he noted.
