A mathematics evening dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Maya Hajiyeva was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU)

On May 24, 2024, Mingachevir State University (MSU) hosted a mathematics evening titled “Green World: A Mathematics Evening Dedicated to the 110th Anniversary of Maya Hajiyeva” as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” initiative. The event, organized by the MSU Department of Mathematics, was attended by academic and administrative staff, students, and graduate students of the Faculty of Education.

The event began with a one-minute silence to honor the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev and the heroic martyrs, followed by the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Greeting the participants, the head of the Department of Mathematics, Rovshan Babayev, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in enhancing students’ worldviews, knowledge, and skills. He also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event and highlighted that Maya Hajiyeva, Azerbaijan’s first female mathematician, devoted her entire life to education and her students.

A video presentation was shown about Maya Hajiyeva’s creative work and the “Maya Hajiyeva ICT Skills” scholarship program.

The event continued with presentations on related topics. Associate Professor Mehman Rasulov from the Department of Mathematics gave a speech titled “Maya Hajiyeva in Memories,” discussing the scientific and pedagogical activities of his former teacher, Maya Hajiyeva. He shared that many of her students are currently working in higher and secondary education institutions across the country, as well as in other fields of science and professions. Many intellectuals who benefited from her teachings now describe her as an irreplaceable personality, a dedicated scientist, and a caring mother.

Under the leadership of Associate Professor Rasulov, students from the Faculty of Education of MSU gave presentations on various topics: Kubraxanım Nuriyeva spoke on “Mathematics in a Green World,” Elnarə Əhmədova presented “Poems and Sayings About Teachers,” Mələk Nəbizadə discussed “Other Azerbaijani Female Mathematicians,” Zərifə Muxtarova presented on “Turkish Female Mathematicians,” and Nazəni Qasımova spoke about “Female Mathematicians of the World.” The presentations were well received by the audience.

Students who had won competitions in previous mathematics evenings organized by the department were awarded prizes. Among the winners, second-year student Xasay Babaşov, majoring in Mathematics and Informatics Teaching, expressed his special thanks to the teachers and university administration for their support in the comprehensive development of young people.

The event continued with a cultural program, featuring poems, songs, and dances performed by students and local schoolchildren, adding special color to the evening. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the high level of the event and the vibrant performances. At the end, small gifts were presented to the participants with the slogan “Let’s give life for a green world.”
