On May 22, 2024, a scientific-theoretical seminar on the topic “Perspectives on the Protection of Biodiversity” was held at Mingachevir State University (MSU) as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” within the framework of International Biodiversity Day. The event was organized by the Department of Physics and Ecology of MSU and was attended by the university’s faculty, students, and graduate students.
Before the seminar, an exhibition of student-made household waste art was held.
Təranə Yusibova, the head of the Department of Physics and Ecology at MSU, shared her thoughts on the topic, discussing the current state of biodiversity, the importance of decrees signed by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, regarding the protection of nature, the national program on environmental protection, the creation of legal frameworks in this area, and significant efforts made in protecting natural resources and establishing national parks. She also highlighted the purposeful activities carried out by her department in collaboration with students in this field and extended her congratulations on May 23, Azerbaijan Ecologists Day.
Asim Məmmədov, the director of MSU’s Center for Sustainable Development and Regional Innovations, thanked the organizers of the event and the students who actively participated in the exhibition. He emphasized that the main goal of this event was to draw global attention to the protection of biodiversity, which is affected by both natural and anthropogenic factors.
Following this, lectures by the department’s faculty were presented. Gülmirə Məmmədova spoke on “Measures Taken to Protect Biodiversity in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” Natəvan Vəliyeva discussed “The Impact of Electronic Waste on the Environment and Human Health,” Fəridə Həsənli covered “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Liberated Territories,” and Aysel Bayramova presented on “Biodiversity: Protecting Life on Earth.”
The seminar continued with discussions.
At the end of the event, student projects presented in the exhibition were evaluated through voting and rewarded with encouraging gifts.
It is worth noting that various events are being held at MSU as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.”
