A roundtable discussion on the topic “Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of COP29 is a Bridge Between the Global North and South” was held within the framework of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World,” organized by the Department of Physics and Ecology at Mingachevir State University (MSU). The event was attended by the university’s academic staff, students, and graduate students.
In her speech, Dr. Təranə Yusibova, the head of the Department of Physics and Ecology at MSU, discussed the economic and political significance of Azerbaijan hosting COP29. She highlighted that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29 in 2024 is a major event at both the regional and global levels. In her speech, Dr. Yusibova pointed out the role Azerbaijan plays in global efforts to combat climate change, emphasizing how the country not only enhances its global influence but also serves as a bridge between the global North and South.
According to the roundtable’s program, the department’s faculty members gave presentations. Vüsalə Mustafayeva spoke on “The Impact of Climate Variability and Climate Warming on Vegetation in Azerbaijan,” Gülmirə Məmmədova discussed “The Socio-political Aspects of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of COP29,” Şəbnəm İslamova presented on “The Prospects of Solar Energy Use in the World,” and Gülgün İsrəfilova gave a presentation on “The Threats Global Climate Change Poses to Our Planet.”
At the end of the event, a video clip related to the topic was shown, followed by discussions.
It should be noted that various events are being held at MSU as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World.”
